As Presbyterians, we believe that Jesus alone is the King and Head of his church.

The Lord Jesus Christ loves the church, which is His bride, His wife (Ephesians 5:31-32). In order to ensure that His bride is well cared for, the Lord gives her elders and deacons to lead and nurture her (I Timothy 3). The elders are equipped by God to care primarily for the church’s spiritual needs, while the deacons care primarily for her physical needs. The word “Presbyterian” comes from the Greek word “presbuteros” which means “elder”. In Presbyterian churches, the elders, not the pastor alone (who is an elder) or the congregation, have the final say in all important decisions in the life of the church.
